Lead Pipeline Developer

Current

Johannesburg Area, South Africa

As a Lead Pipeline Developer, I was responsible for leading a team of developers to improve the quality and throughput of the internal Megascans production team. I developed an end-to-end automation toolkit for photogrammetry processing, which helped to streamline and optimize the production pipeline. One of my key achievements was working on the library conversion to port Megascans to Fab, which involved developing new tools and processes to analyse and process assets for seamless integration of the Megascans library into Fab's store infrastructure.Through my work, I was able to significantly improve the efficiency and quality of Megascans production, reducing production times and increasing the volume of high-quality assets produced.I am passionate about developing innovative solutions to complex problems and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

Pipeline Developer

Johannesburg Area, South Africa

I was responsible for leading the effort to convert our existing production workflow to be Houdini centric. This involved working closely with the team to identify pain points and areas of inefficiency, and then developing new tools and processes that integrated Houdini into the production pipeline. In addition to converting the Megascans workflow to be Houdini centric, I also developed a range of pipeline tools for both 2D and 3D asset production in Houdini. These tools included custom scripts for automating repetitive tasks, as well as specialized tools for creating and manipulating specific types of assets, such as 3D assets and complex derivatives. I also developed tools for optimizing asset creation and export, ensuring that assets could be easily imported into other applications or shared with other team members.

May 2018 - Jan 2020

Digital Artist - Generalist

Freelance

Johannesburg Area, South Africa

I worked on several TV commercials that required a significant amount of VFX work. My primary responsibility was to create and design destruction elements that would be integrated into footage. This involved using Houdini to create realistic and dynamic explosions, crumbling buildings, and other destruction effects.I also worked on developing reusable debris tools that could be used across multiple projects. This involved developing a range of scripts and tools that would allow us to quickly and easily create custom debris elements that could be used in different scenarios.I had the opportunity to work on several CG 360° VR experiences. In these projects, I was responsible for the entire production process from start to finish. This involved developing the initial storyboards and designs, supervising the studio shoot, and creating the final 3D elements and compositing. I worked closely with the creative team to ensure that the final product met the client's needs and expectations. I also developed custom tools and scripts to optimize the production pipeline and improve the efficiency of the workflow.I was thrilled to have the opportunity to compete in the Project Soane competition which won first place. I developed several pipeline tools to speed up the process of converting inefficient, CAD models into Unreal Engine friendly models to rebuild the digital replica of the Bank of England. These tools included custom scripts and workflows for automating repetitive tasks, as well as specialized tools for creating and manipulating geometry.I was excited to participate in the Vineyard Challenge hosted by Ronen Bekerman. I had the opportunity to develop a real-time entry for the competition using Unreal Engine, which allowed me to create a highly immersive experience.I used a range of tools and techniques to create my submission, including custom shaders, lighting, and textures, which helped to bring the vineyard to life in a realistic and engaging way.

Oct 2016 - Apr 2018

3D Generalist

Johannesburg Area, South Africa

I had the opportunity to work on everything from modeling and look development to VFX simulations and layout for both TV commercials and feature films. This has allowed me to develop a broad range of skills and expertise in multiple areas of the production pipeline.I also developed custom tools and workflows to speed up many aspects of the production process. For example, I have developed a suite of tools within Maya and Houdini that can be used to automate repetitive tasks and optimize the workflow from modeling through to rendering and many steps in between. These tools have been designed to be flexible and adaptable, so they can be customized to fit the specific needs of each project. In addition to these technical skills, I also have a strong understanding of the creative and artistic aspects of the production process.
