I'm on a mission to share the magic and joy of the New Orleans second-line parade with artistic communities around the world.In 2015 I organized a charity event as a tribute to my Aunt Patty in Charleston, SC. What started as a "Mardi Gras Pub Crawl for Charity" has evolved into the community arts and cultural exchange festival now known as the "Jazz Crawl". The weeklong celebration is fueled by cultural exhibits, headliner shows, pop-up parades, stage productions, and private parties. The festival culminates on Sunday with a Carnival costume contest and downtown “Second-Line Parade for Charity” led by musicians, dancers, and students from New Orleans and locally.Donations are collected to advance our educational programs and gift instruments to students in need. Donors have options for memorializing loved ones through parade commemorations and engraved instruments. These tribute options pay homage to the second-line's origination as a celebration of life at New Orleans "Jazz Funerals".Witnessing a traditional Mardi Gras Indian or S&P Club second-line parade roll by in the neighborhoods of New Orleans is a powerfully uplifting experience. What we call the #SecondLineMagic effect is a product of community participation in the call and response songs, percussive rhythms, and dancing as the parade grows from block to block. Our biggest goal at Jazz Crawl Productions is to present the most authentic form of #SecondLineMagic you could possibly experience outside the "Backatown" streets of New Orleans. We are currently producing an interactive stage show intended to take audiences on a journey through New Orleans music, dance, and parading culture. The crowd engaging performances escalate in energy and participation to showcase the evolution of New Orleans second-line parades and artistic Carnival traditions. The theme of community participation is emphasized by inviting local artists and enthusiastic members of the audience to join in the artistic expression through the aisles and on stage.We are seeking sponsorships to bring our growing cast of brass bands, Mardi Gras Indians, S&P Club parade steppers, educators, and cultural artists to this year's "Jazz CrawL" in Charleston, SC: June 10th-June 14th. We are also looking for enthusiastic community partners to get involved in our unique festivities as a group.
