Richard Barrett has practiced law since 1976 and is a past member of the firm's Executive Committee. Mr. Barrett has been affiliated with Cassiday Schade LLP since 1980, where his primary focus has been the trial of a wide variety of civil lawsuits. He has first chaired more than 60 jury cases, with excellent results.Mr. Barrett is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Notre Dame and attended Georgetown Law School. He has extensive experience in all phases of litigation, including complex discovery and developing trial strategy in a variety of practice areas, including medical malpractice, product liability, construction law and commercial litigation. Mr. Barrett's litigation experience also includes appellate review. He has briefed and argued multiple cases in the appellate courts.Mr. Barrett frequently lectures to clients and professional groups to assist in risk management in their respective fields. He has addressed dental societies, attorneys, therapists and social workers specializing in child abuse. He has presented to the Midwest Professional Conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, has been an invited lecturer and faculty member for the DuPage County Bar Association’s four week trial preparation course, and has acted as a special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois.Mr. Barrett has written on various topics, including an article in the Journal of American Medical Record Association discussing the potential liability of hospitals: “Apparent Agency: How Can Hospitals Combat the Appearance?” He has been published in the DuPage County Bar Association Journal on the statutory and common law trends in governing the physician-patient privilege.Mr. Barrett received an AV Preeminent peer review rating by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized annually by Super Lawyers since 2007 for personal injury defense, medical malpractice and construction litigation.
