In support of the State Department’s mission, ECA developed and conducted custom-designed, policy-sensitive programs for 50,000+ individuals from over 175 countries each year, with a staff of over 600 and a budget of over $700 million. - Served after 9/11 as the sole public diplomacy expert on the State Department's senior steering committee. In response to the 9/11 attack, originated the first high school exchange program for the Arab and Muslim world, thus far engaging 12,000+ young men and women. - Provided direction and guidance on all aspects of international exchange policy, programs and management, transforming American values and foreign policy goals into action. - Rescued U.S. Government’s largest public diplomacy program (100,000+ foreign students each year) from collapse through most comprehensive reforms in 50-year history of program, including intensive interaction with White House, media, private sector and Congress. - Spearheaded collaboration with Metropolitan Museum of Art on reopening of its Islamic Art collection, creating multi-media global messaging strategy for 270 U.S. embassies and consulates, reaching an audience of over 10 million. - Pioneered the application of exchanges to counter disinformation and media manipulation. - Guided the Bureau's congressional relations and oversaw a tripling of the Bureau's appropriation. - Envisioned and realized the State Department's first worldwide network of alumni, dramatically increasing return on investment, drawing on a pool of over 1,000,000 participants, including 600+ heads of state and government and 80+ Nobel laureates. - Instituted cultural heritage as a key component of foreign affairs, resulting in 600+ projects in 100+ countries. - Pioneered new model of U.S. Government partnership with the private sector, shifting paradigm from short-term fundraising to long-term institutional collaboration.
