Plan, design, implement, operate and optimize security systems for agency. Security equipment and technologies include: Cisco routers, firewalls, switches, IPSec and Web VPN components, Network and Host IPS, Mars and Websense. Additional technical responsibilities include: DNS and DHCP services, wireless systems, Cisco IP phone systems and Linux logging servers.Improve network security. This was done by: enabling security features on existing hardware and software, updating existing firewalls to Cisco’s 7.x and 8.x platforms and taking advantage of new security features, installing 4 additional firewall systems, installing 4 IDS systems and installing Mars appliance. Modernize reports provided to senior management. Improve security monitoring and analysis process.

Responsibilities include over 30 customer networks and support more than 100 devices. Provide customer consultation on network and security plans and designs. Implement, monitor, maintain and optimize customer networks. Customer networks include: WAN, LAN, NIDS and HIDS, firewalls, VPN environments and other security devices. Function as 2nd level escalation point for team members. Create template documents to audit Cisco services, including access and operating systems policies. Perform audits on firewalls, routers and Linux servers. Write Perl programs to generate reports for managed devices. Function as a mentor to team members on technical issues and professional development. Participate in cross functional teams developing, restructuring and maintaining department and company wide processes, procedures and training documents. Special projects focused on improving customer satisfaction, employee moral and migrating Operations department to ITIL.

NetSolve was purchased by Cisco in November 2004. My responsibilities at NetSolve were similar to Cisco.
