Rishi Dev is a New Delhi based Architect & Ekistician (Gold Medalist) who has been practicing independently since 1998. Having diverse experience in architecture, planning and ekistics, he has completed more than 900 projects all over the world. He teaches in his idle time. Apart from the main stream professional works & teaching, he has been actively involved in philanthropic activities, projects & researches for more than a decade now. He is also a renowned social activist who has contributed much in the field of Urban Ecology and issues connected with animal and human conflict in settlements,From Mega Cities to chairs, his office, designs it all. Be it a traditional Haveli or a contemporary Villa, Rishi Dev thrives to stay in vogue, not in the sense of futurism imposed but as act of custom-made creativity, amplified. He works from micro to macro scales in his planning and architectural practices. He claims to have witnessed the intensity of spatial experience that even a chair has the potential to generate, making the act of designing a chair- a process of evocation for him. Rishi’s practice also aims at dissolving the divide between spaces that are closest to humans or beyond their perception. This is why he doesn’t distinguish between object design, interior design, building design or city planning. Rishi’s planning and research projects deal with issues like Urban Ecology & Wildlife, Zero Carbon Cities, Self sustenance and Quality of Life more than “development” or “building”. He encourages planning practices which deliberately do not follow the usual approach undertaken in master planning. He believes that the good and the evil in buildings, spaces and cities are the doings of his brethren, which the community collectively has disowned, passing the buck onto the governance and administration. Through more than two and half decades of simultaneous design, research, execution of mass scale live projects along with published and acclaimed researches Rishi has proved that issues like pollution, inflation, crime, esp. crime against women, over population, degradation of society as a whole and the repercussions are all fundamentally the results of planning faults. Such cities still carry easy, technological and planning solutions to all the above mentioned conflicts that exist in urban living. Holistic approaches to planning when adopted in the context of the Project, have the potential to actualize the dream of Development shaking hands with Ecological Conservation. Rishi believes the time has come for them to reconcile, for the sake of the planet.
