A summer research program where I analyzed frequency stability of four semiconductor lasers by heterodyning against a frequency comb and calculating Allan variances in time domain to determine noise sources. I performed precision measurements of diffraction angles off a photonic crystal high contrast grating. Using the measurement data I calculated the grating periodicity, exploiting tangent curve fitting methods in the Igor data processing language. A summer research experience where I designed control and locking software in Python for a broadly tunable narrow linewidth semiconductor laser. I evaluated several locking mechanisms for frequency stabilization for a Pure Photonics CoBrite laser. Later, I analyzed wavelength and linewidth data using Igor Pro Data Analysis Package.

Responsibilities included thoroughly researching potential technologies and hardware for the device, presenting possibilities to the staff, and contacting distributors to retrieve pricing quotes. Contract-based position with the Museum to modify and upgrade the electronics for an existing remotely controlled Mars Rover exhibit. I also worked independently to develop a Python-based computer vision control algorithm using optimized search techniques for the rover. Specific responsibilities included system design; part selection, purchasing, and evaluation; complete software design, both for the rover as well as the control computer; testing and implementation on site, and documentation.
