Led design and deployment of an open architecture for PCS, including industry-first deployment of IS-634 allowing separate vendors for CDMA radio (Base Station Subsystem, BSS) and switching (MSC). Successfully managed intervendor issues.Outcome: Delivered industry-leading ability to mix and match CDMA radio and switching components, resulting in savings on both components. Delivered on schedule, with full functionality. Honored with “President’s Club Award” for outstanding performance, as recognized by peers and management (3/2000).Outcome: Launched Wireless Internet service, “BrowseNow,” offering seamless access to customer data and e-mail via wireless or Internet access–industry first.Led team to develop a pre-standard product and protocol definition for SS7 signaling over TCP/IP, including functional requirements defining a Gateway to enable IP devices to complement Intelligent Networks (SS7:IP Gateway STP).Outcome: Delivered design of breakthrough architecture to support signaling, data, and operations traffic over a IP network, resulting in significant savings. Awarded 1999 Global Award by Financial Times for “Best Use of Enhanced IN Solutions” for IN:IP Gateway Project, at Telecom ’99.Managed cross-functional team to deploy integrated wireless/wireline service architecture. Includes economic analysis, detailed design, product selection, vendor negotiations, and vendor management. Led team in design and selection of vendors to deploy Tier 2 markets, and negotiated 5 contracts.Outcome: $120M 1st year savings (35% net savings) vs. previous architecture, for 1999 Tier 2 deployment alone.Outcome: Delivered design of an integrated wireless/wireline network, on schedule, while generating significant Intellectual Property. Patent obtained for architecture, signaling, and billing of an Integrated Wireless/Wireline network.
