Over the course of my career, I have worked in various multilingual research and technology development environments. During six years with Microsoft, I focused on developing technology infrastructures supporting the development of linguistic analysis programs and resources in more than 80 languages, across 4 different Microsoft product lines. At the NWU’s Centre for Text Technology I continued this work from a managerial position, developing language resources and technologies for SA languages, with a primary focus on implementing machine learning based technologies. During my time at the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources I acted as technical manager, overseeing the establishment and implementation of all technical aspects of the Research Infrastructure, while also managing 15+ internal and external projects, both nationally and internationally. Currently I am primarily involved in NLP research focusing on deep learning, applying my existing knowledge of machine learning to various applications of deep learning to improve the linguistic resources in the South African languages.
