A wonderful experience into the life of a business entrepreneur. A good friend and I opened a third-party cell phone store with the intent of selling multiple lines of product directly to the consumers in the Madison Avenue area of Albany. With private investment, we opened the store to rave success in the immediate area, yet I soon felt the desire to be more of an owner/operator and joined up with my father to become a master electrician and ultimately transform and run the operations of Mel Carr Electric. I felt that career was more in line with the goals I had set out for myself and my family, though I would not change the cell phone store experience for anything. The lessons in creating a small business I learned there were invaluable to my growth as a business owner.

Bartender, server, and manager of Sunday football for a local sports bar and gambling facility. I started out as a bar back before I could even serve myself a beer. Through years of hard work and dedication, I learned the necessary skills to tend bar and ultimately found the knack for management with Sunday football, which was a huge portion of the revenue for that business. Managing a small staff of waitresses, bartenders, and kitchen staff was a great way to learn how to operate under a time constraint and with a lot of pressure to get things right from a sometimes rowdy crowd. I cherish the experiences made at The Scoreboard, and know that much of my development as a professional was cultivated there.

Assistant program director, camp counselor, worked in various departments throughout organization, trip leader of 36 adolescents to Europe/Africa for 5 weeks, best summers of my life! I started at CYJ as a camper. I found such a life for myself there and the ability to grow as a person and find out who I really was that I stayed on as staff for many years. I still have strong ties to this organization and could not express what that community means to me. The experience gained here directly contribute to my personality, my dedication, my ability to get things done, my ability to deal with large groups, my ability to work with children, and even into my family life. The trip to Europe/Africa (or more specifically Portugal, Spain, and Morocco) was one that taught me the value of leadership and responsibility. By the time I left camp, I was a respected member of the administration, and had completed almost every goal I had set out for myself there. I have continued to be a part of this organization and will remain dedicated to its continued success.
