It was a long thoughtful process that lead me to make a career change at this time. Had a few options, but in the end I picked the company that I started with in golf course construction, Scansa. The discussions were about both side wanting this opportunity to work and after awhile it was clear where I wanted to go. So on August 3/21 I will be starting with Scansa Construction and I'm excited with this great opportunity.

Was responsible for caring for all grass blvds and sport fields in Langford. Had a crew of 15 staff that would perform all the day to day chores sure as, grass trimming, blowing, mowing with ride on & walk behind equipment. Other maintenance practices were fertilizing, aeration and irrigation set up.I also managed the organic compost & soil dept. We had 3 acres where we would haul all our garden & grass clipping waste to. Then piles were created, approximately 250yds in size, other carbon sources were added, then the curing process had started. These piles would be flipped at least once a month up to a year to cure, then screened. Finish product would be added to garden beds, for sport fields, grass blvds and new turf const, the soil would be blended with wash sand to create an outstanding product.

My responsibilities will include heading up the new construction dept, be involved with building new greens, tee boxes or other shaping & construction projects. Also be part of all Turf grass Cultural Practices for both Jack Nicklaus design courses, plus adding more drainage on fairways and more irrigation lines for better coverage. There is an opportunity also to mentor some of the staff in detailed construction & turf maintenance practices. Push their curiosity, skills, and knowledge so they can reach their full potential. This will lay the ground work for a stronger core who will welcome the "Accountability, Responsibility" you need to maintain 36 hole golf course. I'm looking forward to this new exciting direction in my turf career. Being asked by Superintendent Kyle Kimball & Ecoasis to help accomplish their future vision of this property is such an outstanding opportunity, can't wait to start - Turf First. Since July 2016 the staff and I have been involved with prepping the mountain course for the PGA Pacific Links Championship. A lot of hard work and complete exhaustion was needed to pull it off, but was well worth it.The players, PGA Officials, and ownership were blown away with course conditions, a real testament to all staff. The week of the tournament was going to be very special to me, because on championship Sunday was my last day. It turned out it was going to need a three round playoff to have a winner, couldn't have ask for a better way to go out. Want to give a shout out to Superintendent Kyle Kimball for making room for me in his budget .

I used all of my 20 years of knowledge & experience to put this turf construction information together for sports fields, because there is so much incorrect info out there. This became very clear working with Landscape Architects, using heavy soil or a high percentage of organics along with drainage drawings being backwards were just a few of the problems. Poor drainage & compaction are what fields suffer the most from, using a sandy loam mix that has a very low percent of silt, fines, & clay is a huge step forward in the right direction. One of the most important aspects of field construction & maintenance is the grassplant is alive, it needs oxygen, nutrients, and water for ongoing turf health. Proper construction and materials are a must for future success.

Over seeing all maintenance responsibilities for the company's turf & garden area's. This includes quality control, staffing levels, equipment maintenance along with setting up fertility programs & irrigation run times. Design, build, & maintain Sport's field construction, can custom design what the client want's and make it work with their budget. Starting with subgrade, drainage, irrigation up to custom blend of the growing medium. We also help with the grow - in stage, long term maintenance and Cultural Practices of the turf.

Putting green shaper for the Jack Nicklaus 18 hole Valley Course at Bear Mnt in Victoria BC. Starting with the subgrade then followed all the USGA putting green construction step's. Fuse HD pipe for the irrigation system for the golf course, from 5cm (2") - 20cm (8") Also helped design and install all drainage lines & catch basin's for the 18 fairway's & driving range.
