After 5 years working for Accenture (called Andersen Consulting at that time), Rob decided to give independent consulting a try. Freeland, Inc. started with a 3 month contract for Sprint that was continuously extended for just over 10 years. That was followed by projects at H&R Block, CenturyLink and additional work at Sprint/Nextel.

Project Manager / SME for Access billing platform conversion - CASS (IABS clone) to CDG CABS. Bill to Bill Testing Manager – Created the overall test plan and managed the day to day test execution coordinating the activities of over 20 business, IT and Testing resources. Architected and co-developed compare processes for switched minute of use and circuit charges along with balances, payment OC&Cs and other key values: final conversion exceeded all acceptance criteria.Fallout Reduction Lead – Analyzed circuit and order fallout, identified trends and worked with business and IT resources address. Final conversion fallout dramatically lower than acceptance criteria. Data Cleansing Manager– Lead team of 5 internal resources, identified ~50 cleansing items, worked with IT, the business and center agents to scrub and manually cleanse ~10k issues. No cleansing issues at conversion. Account Mapping Lead - Oversaw maintenance of many to one account mapping between the systems, created 30+ audit queries and a validation processes that ensured mapping was complete and accurate.

Project Manager – Subcontracted through Amdocs to support conversion of Sprint’s 7M+ wholesale subscribers to the Amdocs Ensemble billing system. Data Cleansing Manger - Identified cleansing issues, architected and oversaw the reporting process, distributed results and managed the cleansing efforts via scripts and manual efforts by Sprint and the wholesaler’s agents. Liaison - Primary liaison between the technical conversion team and the business teams. Worked with the business to revise internal processes and prepare customers the conversion. Price Plan & Product Analysis - Ensured that the Amdocs plans, features and products matched the source system. Identified conflicts and worked with mapping team to address.

Deployment Manager – Responsible for business readiness and other aspects of billing system migration for 3M+ CDMA corporate wireless subscribers to the Amdocs platform.Liaison - Coordinated customer selection/notification, conversion planning, customer data analysis and cleansing, workforce and call routing impact assessment and call metric analysis.Strategy Consultant - Participated in site visits and interviewed executives responsible for Corporate wireless customers. Documented and diagramed the various organizations, their interactions and applications in order to identify and address the operational impacts of moving to the Amdocs platform.

Project Manager / Analyst / SQL developer – Developed an ad-hoc data warehouse to quickly analyze and report on tax office setup and software deployment progress. For the following tax season, managed a project to incorporate this information into the enterprise warehouse and standard executive reporting.Project Manager – Responsible for vendor selection, development, pilot testing and nationwide deployment of a field security solution - including multiple encryption products and process changes. Managed multiple infrastructure improvements including the installation of broadband and new servers at over 2500 field offices.

Project Manager / Architect - Designed and project-managed the implementation of a quality assurance intranet site. Originally created for four centers, but eventually became the Sprint corporate standard used by hundreds of centers and tens of thousands of users allowing cross-organizational benchmarking and standardization while reducing costs.Subject Matter Expert – Documented and presented an overview of the data model for the wholesale access billing system and supported the addition of this data into the enterprise data warehouse.Architect / Developer - Designed and developed an intranet site to facilitate investigation and reporting of Wireless Local Number Portability issues and escalations. Worked closely with senior executives to enhance the site to include workflow functions and provide enhanced executive level trend reporting.Architect / Developer - Designed and co-developed modifications to an existing intranet-based survey application to gather feedback from more than 5000 Customer Care staff. Created and implemented a methodology to email surveys daily to representative samples of eligible users.Architect – Re-architected a Sprint system designed to provide call center agents with daily scorecards based on multiple data feeds. Reduced the effort to add centers, scorecards, measures and source systems. Improved web presentation by adding drill-down capabilities and user defined reports.Architect / Business Analyst - Wrote functional and technical requirements to enhance the access billing system to be more flexible and table-driven. The resulting changes dramatically simplified the ordering and rating for products with location-sensitive rates and term-discount pricing.Training Development / Delivery - Created documentation and traveled to present training to over 250 end users. Also presented training to the system developers to help them understand the relationship between the system changes and FCC regulations.
