About Rob Harris

I am fortunate enough to love what I do as a Loss Prevention Manager. I hear lots of people complaining about their jobs. I love mine. I am passionate about finding new ways to reduce losses and save money. In my role I evaluate risk and put in place relevant measures to mitigate this. I have lead and been involved in several successful projects which have added value to the business. I enjoy the travelling and interaction with different stakeholders which my job entails. The region I cover is roughly a third of the UK. Multi-tasking and the ability to prioritise is a key part of being a Loss Prevention Manager in what is a very fast-paced environment. For example I might be in Devon doing a store visit when an incident happens in London. I then have to immediately react and remotely support the team in London through what might be a challenging period of time before returning my attention to my visit. I have a track record of success in Retail sales as both a Store Manager and Area Manager. In 2018 I decided to have a change of direction in my career and I moved into Loss Prevention. This turned out to be the best career decision I have ever made! My previous experience has given me an excellent commercial grounding which I apply to my work as a Loss Prevention Manager. This enables me to frame my store visits in a way that gains buy in from Retail staff whilst ensuring improvements are made.People often say I am very approachable and a great communicator. I use this to influence key internal and external stakeholders and affect change. I have a very large network which includes store staff (from over 80 stores), Franchise teams, head office department and partner organisations. I once tried to count my network (I gave up at 300). A big part of my role is to get people to trust me enough to tell me when they have made a mistake or if they simply do not understand something. I have rectified many issues by catching mistakes early and prevented them by training and coaching our teams. I have been told that I work well under pressure. Part of my role is attend the aftermath of incidents. Often these can be traumatic and emotive experiences for those directly involved. Alongside this my investigations are often time critical. Depending on the nature of the incident I have to manage expectations of a number of stakeholders including store staff, head office colleagues and Police, whilst delivering high quality work whilst working to strict timescales.
