I lead the JBA Trust, a charity linking academia, industry and the 3rd sector, with a central vision to help people make better decisions about how to manage environmental risks.I helped to establish the JBA Trust in 2011 and have been Managing Director since then. The Trust is funded by JBA Group, where I built up a research and development capability starting in 2002, after moving from the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in Wallingford.Over more than 25 years’ experience of industrial and academic R&D, I have led innovations in the use of GPU parallel computing to improve predictions of flooding, for which I received an innovation award from the Royal Academy of Engineering, and in state of-the-art methods for risk analysis in flood management. My contributions to advisory boards include:- served on the Scientific Advisory Group to the UK Government’s National Flood Resilience Review in 2016- member of the theme advisory group on modelling to the Defra/Environment Agency joint R&D programme in Flood and Coastal Risk Management since 2014- UK research council panel member and panel chair- Environment Agency flood hydrology research roadmap steering group- BHS Working Group on the Future of UK Hydrological Research- advisory groups for two Centres for Doctoral TrainingI have an active research profile (https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/lec/about-us/people/rob-lamb) and have published over 30 peer reviewed journal papers, two text books, seven book chapters and numerous commissioned research reports. My research includes work in hydrology, statistics and data science, risk analysis, climate change and geomorphology. My work has been applied by government agencies, NGOs and private industry.
