The LS-PAC MODELS Center is one of six Louis Stokes regional centers of excellence funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Our aim is to assist universities and colleges in diversifying the nation's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of STEM baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to populations historically underrepresented in these disciplines: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders. The LS-PAC MODELS Center maintains a major focus on providing mentoring and professional development opportunities to undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral scholars seeking careers in academia. The center is also focused on building networks between Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) programs by developing partnerships with colleges and universities throughout the southeast U.S. Further, we conduct research to identify social, academic, and personal factors that result in positive outcomes among underrepresented STEM students.

• Implemented the Louisiana Teacher Preparation Quality Rating System to ensure that Louisiana’s educator workforce is equipped to successfully navigate the teaching profession.• Maintained strong relationships with university deans and directors of teacher education programs to obtain key insights into how teacher preparation can be improved in the state of Louisiana. • Coordinated the development and rollout of data-based performance profiles containing key metrics for Louisiana’s 28 teacher preparation institutions. • Ensured the review and approval of new teacher preparation programs.

I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical-Community Psychology in 2016. I specialize in using implementation science to conduct program evaluations of system-wide initiatives, particularly in the field of education. I research and implement strategies to help organizations plan, monitor, and evaluate their activities and ensure that they achieve their intended goals.

-Evaluate process and outcomes of a state-wide SAMHSA grant for implementing Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) practices in state drug abuse treatment centers across South Carolina. -Collect and analyze evaluation data from treatment center databases regarding patients and their outcomes. -Develop and present evaluation reports to grant policy steering committee and SAMHSA project officers.-Conduct focus groups and interviews with stakeholders including treatment center directors, health educators, drug abuse counselors, physicians, and drug abuse patients to determine the extent to which SBIRT services are being implemented state-wide and whether SBIRT decreases substance use and prevents relapse.
