The role of Special Inspector - Specialist Operations is to ensure the strategic deployment on Special Constables. This can be planned and unplanned major events, spontaneous incidents that require more resources or specialist skills as well as supporting full time specialist resources and giving additional options for the future development of Specials across GMP.Working in conjunction with the Specialist Operations Planning Unit my role is to establish where Specials can be deployed to supplement full time resources.In addition to deploying resources the role also looks at ways we can utilise our officers additional skills that they bring from outside of GMP. This helps to establish development routes for career Specials and supports retention.

I volunteer in my own time as a Special Constable for Greater Manchester Police. I currently lead a team of 16 officers on the Trafford District.My role is to ensure that the team are competent in the role of a police officer, and have the skills to provide support to all areas of the district policing team. Ensuring that we are effectively deployed, aware of and aim to deal with district priorities, as well as provide support to major events and incidents that impact the district.I line manage 3 Special Sergeants who deal with the day to day management of officer welfare, time management and also liaise with their full-time counterparts to get the best use of the time their officers volunteer.I regularly take the lead on major events that impact the Trafford district as well as neighbouring districts including Manchester Marathon, Half Marathon and Greater Manchester run. This role sees me acting as the point of contact for the Operational Commander for the event where I help to brief the staff and deploy resources to hot-spot areas.
