Rob worked at the Environment Agency in various roles during a 17 year career and developed a broad based experience of water management, the water industry and aquatic science. At the Agency’s Head Office he worked in the following roles: policy advisor for bathing water and shellfish water quality; senior assessor for European directive assessment and compliance reporting; and he was a source of technical advice on water quality to 250 operational staff. Rob has also worked as a senior scientist and led the national research and development programme for water quality. He wrote or co-authored some of the Agency's high profile national reports on key water matters. His other Environment Agency experience includes: senior water quality planner where he led the implementation of the water industry improvement programme working closely with Severn Trent Water and Ofwat. Rob managed the investigations programme for water quality in South West England, he was also the regional expert for ecotoxicology, eutrophication and pesticide pollution. For the first six years of his career he was a warrant card holding pollution control officer, tracking down sources of pollution and prosecuting offenders.His carried out international work on behalf of the Environment Agency, he was the water quality expert for the European Commission project developing institutional capacity in Malta and Bulgaria, prior to those countries joining the European Union in 2004. He led water quality reporting for the Agency and was a member of working groups in Brussels and Copenhagen, with the Commission and European Environment Agency.
