Rob was Aurecon’s Project Controls Manager for the detailed design of the SABR Project for BHP. Rob led his team managing the cost control, schedule, reporting and change management on this $50M contract for Aurecon. A highly complex project, the scope of works changed organically over this period requiring approximately 25% change in design to be effectively managed.

Rob was the Delivery Director for the Aurecon-WSP Design Joint Venture (DJV) team engaged by the John Holland-Lendlease JV to undertake tender design services for CRR-TSD. As Aurecon’s lead and reporting to the Aurecon-WSP DJV Project Director, Rob was primarily responsible for the following during tender:* Coordination and management of technical issues with the wider Qonnect team* Overseeing 6No. DJV Area Managers (Stations, Tunnel and Portals) and coordinating 6No. DJV Discipline Leads (Rail, Tunnel, Structures, MEP, Civil and Specialist Services) for the delivery of Concept Design and Pricing Design tender advices* Tender resourcing, schedule and budget control* Oversight of Brisbane River flood advice and submission documentation* Oversight of the Engineering visualisation and video for the Qonnect submission

Rob was the PTA lead for the CRL C5 Contract. The C5 Contract involves the connections of the new CRL line to the existing North Auckland Line / Western Line either side of Mount Eden Station. During this procurement phase, Rob advised AT project management on market engagement, procurement and advice for the C5 Contract.

Fulton Hogan engaged Aurecon as Lead Designers to undertake detailed design of the second crossing of the Clarence River at Grafton for Roads and Maritime, NSW (RMS). Rob was engaged as the Design Manager taking all design packages through to the submission of the first Concept Design phase of the detailed design.

Ferrovial Agroman engaged Aurecon as Lead Designers to undertake tender design of the NZ$1.0B Puhoi to Warkworth PPP project for New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) being 18km of new 4 lane motorway from the Northern Gateway tunnels at Puhoi, north through undulating environmentally sensitive land and reconnecting to State Highway SH1 at Warkworth. As well as being evaluated for whole-of-life cost, NZTA required tenders to address non-price criteria key outcomes of safety; travel time reliability; whole-of-life quality and reputation with stakeholders. Rob was seconded from Brisbane to lead and manage Aurecon’s team including sub-consultants to tender:* Road design including alignment selection to optimise multi-million m3 of cut to fill earthworks, environmental and consent condition constraints and road design details to meet the often competing drivers of capital costs; maintenance and operating costs; and traffic performance.* Geotechnical design of significant (30m high) cut and fill embankments in undulating terrain as well as designing for significant potential post-construction settlement of fill embankments over soft soils in the northern Warkworth region.* Environmental preparation of environmental management plans and the initial Operational Plan of Works (OPW) for Auckland Council, meeting the stringent Resource Consents and Designation Conditions for the project dealing with the earthworks, impacts to local communities and crossing of over 50 waterways.* Structural design of significant viaducts and bridges

Riverway (Leighton Contractors and BMD Constructions) engaged Aurecon to undertake tender design of the Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade (KSDU) project for Brisbane City Council being 3.5km widening of the Kingsford Smith Drive from 4 lanes to 6 lanes between Breakfast Creek Road and Theodore Street in Hamilton, Brisbane. Rob was the Design Area Manager coordinating the technical design of all disciplines for the 1.5km elevated structural section between Breakfast Creek Road and Riverview Terrace and up to Racecourse Road intersection. This involved delivering tender design packages for pricing and tender submission deliverables to achieve an innovative and cost effective design. Specifically, Rob led his team in designing a multifaceted solution to achieve the required construction and traffic staging, technically complex structure over the Brisbane River and the intricate reconstruction of the existing Kingsford Smith Drive including PUP and pavement works.

Leighton Contractors engaged Aurecon to undertake tender design of the Gateway Upgrade North project being 10 km widening of the Gateway motorway from four to six lanes between Nudgee Interchange and Deagon Deviation for Department of Transport & Main Roads, Queensland (TMR)Rob was the Aurecon Project Leader and Design Area Manager for the Nudgee Interchange and led the design team for this area including: * Road highway discipline design lead including alignment options analysis and selection and directly lead the highway road tender design for this area * Management of multiple discipline design packages for this area including structures, hydraulics, drainage, traffic modelling, traffic management, ITS, environment and landscape design; * Interface with separate consultants for geotechnical and pavement design and with Leighton Contractors construction and estimating * Completion of tender design documentation

McConnell Dowell OHL JV engaged Aurecon to undertake tender design of the first stage of the West Connex project being 8 km widening of the M4 motorway from six to eight lanes between Church Street and Hoembushbay Drive, Parramatta for WestConnex Delivery Authority (WDA).Rob lead the Civil Design for this tender including: * Alignment Options Analysis and Selection; * Presentation of Geometry Considerations at the WDA Positive Guidance Workshops * Coordination with other Design Disciplines and with Macdow-OHL construction and estimating personnel * Completion of the civil engineering tender concept design * Detailed D&C tender design risk analysis

Transcity JV (BMD/Acciona/Ghella) was contracted by Brisbane City Council to design, construct, maintain and operate twin lane road tunnels 4.6 km long under urban area connecting the Western Freeway at Toowong with the Inner City Bypass at Herston.From Dec 2009 - Sep 2010, Rob managed the design during the Tender and Request for Clarification (RFC) phases for Transcity JV responsible for:* Interface between the Design Alliance (Cardno/GHD/URS) and Transcity JV to ensure tender design was reviewed for constructability and information provided for pricing* Engineering and Options Analysis to ensure best Value for Money* Interactive Tender Meetings between Transcity and BCC* Final technical documentation for Transcity’s tender* Responses to all technical queries during RFC culminating in Transcity being successfully awarded the contract in September 2010.During the Detailed Design, from Sep 2010 – Nov 2013, Rob continued as Design Interface Manager for surface works including managing the design of: * Western Connection works at Toowong including design of Cut and Cover and Trough structures and connection and widening of Western Freeway, approx. $120m* Eastern Connection works at Kelvin Grove including design of Cut and Cover and Trough structures, extension of Inner Northern Busway (INB) bridge and connection and widening of Inner City Bypass (ICB), approx. $80m* Brisbane Botanical Gardens Masterplan Extension, approx. $20m* Moggill Road / Western Freeway Interchange upgrade, approx. $20m* Modification tender design for Western Freeway 6-Laning, approx. $50m* Modification tender design for Moggill Road Cycleway bridge, approx. $15mIn leading the design for these works, Rob was instrumental in successfully interfacing between the many parties and stakeholders involved including the Design and Construction teams; Brisbane City Council; Independent Verifier; Department of Transport and Main Roads and Community groups.
