Ferrovial Agroman engaged Aurecon as Lead Designers to undertake tender design of the NZ$1.0B Puhoi to Warkworth PPP project for New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) being 18km of new 4 lane motorway from the Northern Gateway tunnels at Puhoi, north through undulating environmentally sensitive land and reconnecting to State Highway SH1 at Warkworth. As well as being evaluated for whole-of-life cost, NZTA required tenders to address non-price criteria key outcomes of safety; travel time reliability; whole-of-life quality and reputation with stakeholders. Rob was seconded from Brisbane to lead and manage Aurecon’s team including sub-consultants to tender:* Road design including alignment selection to optimise multi-million m3 of cut to fill earthworks, environmental and consent condition constraints and road design details to meet the often competing drivers of capital costs; maintenance and operating costs; and traffic performance.* Geotechnical design of significant (30m high) cut and fill embankments in undulating terrain as well as designing for significant potential post-construction settlement of fill embankments over soft soils in the northern Warkworth region.* Environmental preparation of environmental management plans and the initial Operational Plan of Works (OPW) for Auckland Council, meeting the stringent Resource Consents and Designation Conditions for the project dealing with the earthworks, impacts to local communities and crossing of over 50 waterways.* Structural design of significant viaducts and bridges

Riverway (Leighton Contractors and BMD Constructions) engaged Aurecon to undertake tender design of the Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade (KSDU) project for Brisbane City Council being 3.5km widening of the Kingsford Smith Drive from 4 lanes to 6 lanes between Breakfast Creek Road and Theodore Street in Hamilton, Brisbane. Rob was the Design Area Manager coordinating the technical design of all disciplines for the 1.5km elevated structural section between Breakfast Creek Road and Riverview Terrace and up to Racecourse Road intersection. This involved delivering tender design packages for pricing and tender submission deliverables to achieve an innovative and cost effective design. Specifically, Rob led his team in designing a multifaceted solution to achieve the required construction and traffic staging, technically complex structure over the Brisbane River and the intricate reconstruction of the existing Kingsford Smith Drive including PUP and pavement works.
