Riparian habitat monitoring of Hood Canal rivers (Duckabush & Big Quilcene).Duties include:-Operate Garmin GPS to mark waypoints and later determine stream sinuosity using GIS software-Categorize stream bed sediment and large woody debris by size classes using standardized ecological survey forms and protocols-Accurately determine stream bank-full width and depth using stadia rod, precise measuring tools, and standardized ecological survey forms and protocols-Determine overhead tree canopy density using densitometer-Accurately interpret and categorize stream side channels based on scientifically established ecological standards-Conduct scientific native bird and vegetation species surveys on Union River Estuary using advanced ecological monitoring protocols-Complete data entry in Excel and compare to data collected from previous seasons.

Participate in salmon habitat restoration projects around the Hood Canal watershed.Duties include:–Riparian enhancement projects including commercial herbicide application, native species planting, erosion mitigation, and LWD installation–Natural disaster response to hurricanes Irma & Maria in Putnam County, Florida for 40 days and St. Thomas, USVI for 30 days- Natural disaster response duties include felling hazard trees, bucking tree debris, mucking & gutting damaged homes while wearing technical PPE (Fitted respirator and Tyvek suit), and supervising large teams of volunteers (8+)–Conduct ecological surveys of Hood Canal streams for noxious weeds using handheld Garmin GPS unit-Operate Washington State motor pool crew truck-State park grounds maintenance involving tree felling, brush clearing, tree planting, campsite building and maintenance, and noxious weed control-Maintain and formally present crew productivity records–Assume complete supervisor duties in their absence. Some supervisor duties include: Receive job briefings from HCSEG stewardship coordinator and use mobile mapping software to accurately reach project destinations, log crew hours, and delegate tasks among crew members.
