Mr. Schmidt is a Founding Member of CyVantage LLC. CyVantage is currently assisting several large institutions to develop strategies that address the risks presented by the Advanced Persistent Threat in cyber space. Recently Mr. Schmidt was called upon for his expertise and authored a paper titled: "The Cryptocurrency Fallacy, Addressing a Common Misconception About Money; and a Perspective on the Role of Cryptocurrency & Blockchain Technology". As a member of these exchanges, he held a number of appointments. Mr. Schmidt’s appointments at the Chicago Board Options Exchange included Chairman SPX, Chairman FLEX, Financial Planning, Business Conduct, Arbitration, Floor Officials and Facilities Task Force committees; and, at the Chicago Board of Trade, he was appointed to the Dow Options Committee. In addition, Mr. Schmidt served as Special Liaison to the Office of the Chairman on Computer Security. Mr. Schmidt worked with the National Security Agency (NSA) and several private contractors to develop a coherent strategy for detecting and repelling the systematic breach of CBOE systems.Mr. Schmidt was also integral in the operational development of revolutionary products like the VIX and the FLEX product for trading the S&P 500. In addition to education regulators regarding new product development.

Mr. Schmidt provided SME and developed the high level Red Team Scenario for Dartmouth College's (Institute for Security Technology Studies) "Livewire Exercise". Executed in 2003, Livewire was a groundbreaking, maiden, national level cyber exercise for the United States involving fifty organizations from the public and private sectors.

Mr. Schmidt was recognized by FBI Director Robert Mueller in August 2005 for "Exceptional Service in the Public Interest". Mr. Schmidt served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the InfraGard National Members Alliance (INMA) from 2005-2007 and as President of the INMA from 2007-2009. In this capacity Mr. Schmidt led the operational side of the private sector involvement with the FBI’s “Public-Private” InfraGard program. The INMA and its 86 InfraGard Member Alliances (IMAs) are dedicated to CIP and the development of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across a wide spectrum of enterprises.
