I recently retired from performing the role of Operations Planning Constable within NPoCC. I was part of a small team in supporting forces in responding to large scale events in ‘steady state’ and maintaining a capacity to scale up and mobilise effectively in civil emergencies. During times of crisis, NPoCC provides the capability to coordinate and prioritise resources for police forces, whilst supporting senior officers and government crisis management structures. This role also provides a support and administration function to the National Mobilisation Coordinator and Cabinet Office Briefings.I had responsibility for working with partners and intelligence agencies to undertake horizon scanning in respect of potential threats. Preparation for these threats are made by ensuring the right capacity and capability is in place across the country, as identified by the Strategic Policing Requirement and associated National RequirementsThis role has meant I was been heavily involved in the mobilisation and coordination of assets in support of such operations as the NATO Summit 2014, Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014,as well as large scale search, Public Order, and crime investigations requiring the support and coordination of National Police assets.
