Robert was part of a small investment team to develop medium sized commercial properties in Victoria. This involved all aspects of property development from assessment, planning, leasing, construction and selling.

Robert commenced work as a lawyer with National Australia Bank in 1978. He gained extensive experience in retail and corporate banking including recovery and workouts of problem corporate loans, and as a Senior Corporate Lawyer was responsible for major litigation involving the Bank. He was also a General Manager of the Banks funds management company, and was (acting) Managing Director of National Australia Trustee Limited, He left the Bank in 1998.
