Robert Appelbaum is a partner in the Corporate Practice and at Webber Wentzel. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, business rescues, joint ventures and other corporate transactional work and has advised a substantial number of multinational companies in relation to their expansion into Africa. Robert has significant experience in the healthcare, hospitality, mining, infrastructure, power, oil and gas, construction and financial services sectors in Africa.Robert is country partner at Webber Wentzel for Lusofone Africa, Ghana and Ethiopia.Robert is a director of the Demond Tutu Health Foundation. The vision of the Foundation is to lessen the impact of the HIV epidemic on individuals, families and communities.Robert is a director of IRD South Africa (part of IRD Global). IRD is changing the way communities approach healthcare by building evidence based solutions and creating key partnerships between governments, local communities, and organizations. Robert was formerly Honorary Business Representative for the Middle East and Africa Group for International Enterprise Singapore; the government agency then driving Singapore's external economy. His expertise has been recognised by international research organisations including Chambers Global (Corporate/ M&A and Construction) and Legal 500 (M&A). Robert represents the Department of Health in relation to vaccine procurement. In addition he and his team assisted Business 4 South Africa, DTIC and other government departments, pro bono, in relation to COVID-19, where he/they were actively involved in the building of 20000 CPAP ventilators for South Africa. In the past two consecutive years, Robert and his team won the Africa Legal Awards for ESG projects, firstly for the work done in the fight against Covid, and secondly in relation to the Terragrn bamboo ~ carbon sequestration project.Robert is the co-author of two books - “Public Offerings of Company Securities”, and “G&A Compass Methodology to Business Rescue and Compromise Offers”.Robert is co-owner of multiple award winning Strandveld Vineyards, the southernmost estate in South Africa. Robert is a Senior Advisor to Almont Global. Almont Global is a one-stop-shop development and mar-comm support in the luxury tourism and lifestyle sectors. Almont Global offers support to destination marketing organisations, hotel owners and operators, tourism organisations and peripheral luxury industries.Robert has BA and LLB degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand.
