My name is Robert Barker. I was born on August 30, 1996, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where I grew up for all my life. I attended the Watson Chapel School District from grade school all the way through high school. While in high school, I participated in baseball, golf, drama club, Beta Club, and FBLA. As a baseball player I was a 3-time all-conference second baseman, 2-time honorary all-state member, and 2-time conference infielder of the year. I was an honor roll student my junior and senior year and graduated in the top 20 of my senior class in academics in 2015.I enrolled here at the University of Central Arkansas in the fall of 2015. I am currently a junior majoring in business administration, with plans of changing to supply chain management. I picked this major because the demand in the workforce is high. I also have the opportunity of learning critical skills that are practical in almost everyone’s daily lives. Plus, most of this subject material is fascinating. I get to calculate finances, read markets, understand economic ebbs and flows, and learn how to manage people. I’m very fortunate to be studying business administration. I haven’t had a lot of working experience in the past, but I have had some solid jobs since I’ve become a college student. The past three summers I’ve been a golf attendant at the Pine Bluff Country Club. There I helped members with whatever they needed. I would load their bags on golf carts, wash their clubs, all while doing some course maintenance. It was mainly hard labor, but I did learn some quality skills like team building and communication. During those summers I would also help my dad do landscaping duties for our church and family friends. I plan on graduating after another 3 semesters and applying for jobs in central and northwest Arkansas. The beauty of majoring in my subject of study is I can take my skills to virtually any industry, so the possibilities are endless and hopefully the job offers will be abundant.
