About Robert Davey

I am a virologist with interests in identifying host factors that control entry of highly pathogenic viruses into cells. Publications: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/robert.davey.1/bibliography/public/I take both a basic science approach in understanding the virus as well as industry models of screening large drug or siRNA libraries and data mining. The major interest of my lab is in Filoviruses, Arenaviruses and Bunyaviruses. We have special capabilities of being able to perform tests and true high throughput screens (100k+ compounds) at the highest level of biological containment (BSL4, P4). We use high content analysis-based microscopy methods for our screens as they are the best suited for this type of work and have developed our own computational processing pipelines using the Cell Profiler platform.My objective is to identify drugs that can be used as new antiviral therapies.

    We perform mechanism analysis of virus replication for hemorhagic fever viruses in the high biocontainment laboratory (BSL4 NEIDL) at Boston University. We specialize in high-throughput (10,000's per week) evaluation of small molecules for therapies for these viruses. We do both GLP-like contract work as well as academic projects.
