I am a conservation biologist with an interest in applied outcomes to stem biodiversity loss.From a childhood in Africa and Fiji I became inspired by the natural world and the demands of humans on it. I undertook an honours project at Murdoch University, focussing on frogs and habitat fragmentation, topics which I would continue for the next decade.During my honours year I met Prof. Dale Roberts at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and joined the frog lab, having the opportunity to work on a threatened frogs in south-west WA including the newly described Sunset Frog. The next year I started a PhD with Dale looking at the genetic structuring and population biology of a burrowing frog Heleioporus albopunctatus in the highly human-modified agricultural zone of Western Australia.In 2006, after graduation, I was a postdoc at UWA and looked at the impacts of urbanisation on birds. In 2009 I joined Edith Cowan University as a lecturer in vertebrate biology. I have supervised 12 honours students, three masters, one graduate diploma and 4 PhD students to completion and currently supervise three postgraduate students on projects including owl conservation, competition between threatened mammals and the impacts of urbanisation on birds. In recent times my research has lead me to Papua New Guinea, the Republic of Palau and the Northern Marianas Islands, where I continue to research bird conservation.I founded and ran my own fauna consulting business in 2000 and have worked in this field since 1996. I have been either managed or been involved in hundreds of fauna surveys across Western Australia and am thoroughly familiar with all aspects of the Environmental Impact Assessment process.
