In my time as an academic researcher, and in my professional career, I have been deeply motivated by the following question: how can we make the critical software systems we all depend on more reliable? Answers to this question are deeply situational; some of the answers involve improving or specializing the languages we use to write software, some involve automatic tools for doing proof or random testing for bugs, and yet others involve human-guided proof carried out in a rigorous way. All of these answers overlap closely with my technical interests, which revolve around programming language semantics, formal mathematical logic, and the tools for bringing the two together.
Listed skills include Programming Languages, Haskell, C, Formal Verification, and 2 others.

At Galois, I help develop and maintain a suite of specification and formal methods tools, including Cryptol, SAW and Crux. I also apply these tools to a variety of applications, including functional verification of cryptographic primitives, and the automatic verification of generated runtime monitoring code. Presently, I am the primary maintainer of libraries used by these tools for symbolic execution of LLVM bitcode and JVM bytecode, as well as code that dispatches verification conditions to SMT solvers.
I conduct research under the DARPA-funded MRC/SOUND project, which aims to improve network security by applying advanced research ideas to practical problems. As part of this project, have been designing and implementing a programming language for expressing policies, called SUPPL. The language is designed both to make it easier to express computer-executable policies, and to to be amenable to various kinds of formal analysis.
I helped the formal analysis team conduct research on Guardol, a language for programming network guards (which manage the flow of information in networks with different classification levels).
I assisted the University Archivist with managing processes and workflows related to accepting digital artifacts, and participated in the development of the Tufts Digital Library. I also worked on developing the web access portal for the "A New Nation Votes" collection, a collection of voting returns from the earliest period of US history.
