Working on environmental management issues with a team of highly skilled and experienced environmental auditors and environmental managers, focused on the explicit causes of non-compliance to guard against risk of closure and major reputational damage for our clients.Implementing environmental design and management perspectives providing an understanding of compliance and governance obligations and opportunities. Implemented lessons learnt across all projects to ensure continual improvement in environmental management.

A key member of the RMIT Sustainability team within Property Services; my role was responsible for working across Property Services and the wider University to plan, implement and evaluate resource efficiency projects. The role has a focus on waste, transport and water efficiency to deliver holistic sustainability outcomes from operational activities. I was responsible for articulating and mitigating the environmental risks and opportunities arising from Property Services operations; ensuring the systems and processes are meeting statutory and best practice requirements, through the implementation of an Environmental Management System ensuring compliance with the ISO 14001 standard. This focuses the management of contractors across our facilities asset maintenance and capital development programs. Also forming part of the Sustainability Committee, which is the highest governing body at RMIT with a responsibility to promote and coordinate sustainability initiatives across all areas of the University - ensuring sustainability is embedded into the University's core learning, teaching and research activities.

Capital DevelopmentExtensive involvement in ensuring environmental requirements were achieved for projects including in planning, delivery and handover. Providing support to the planning team on relevant environmental management processes, including contaminated land investigations, ecological and cultural heritage assessments for MDP processes and management of specialist consultants in delivery of these studies. Responsibility also encompassed the management of construction contractors, ensuring appropriate environmental management plans were in place prior to the commencement of works and that they compliance obligations were fulfilled through monthly site audits. Key projects included: TOLL IPEC & TNT Warehouse Developments; Airport Drive & Steele Creek North Stormwater Enhancement Project; Papa Uniform Golf (PUGs) Slab Replacement; New T4, Pier G and multi-level car park structure (MLS); Taxiway Victor South & Southern Apron Extension, High Intensity Approach Lighting (HIAL) and supporting the Runway Development Program. Environmental Monitoring ProgramsProject management of several environmental monitoring and compliance programs at the Airport, including surface water, ambient air quality, land contamination, energy and ecological management. These works all involved project management of environmental specialists to deliver the compliance programs to meet the Airport Regulations and targets outlined in the Environment Strategy. Other responsibilities included preparing and submitting the Airport’s National Greenhouse Emissions Reporting Scheme (NGERS) report each year. This included obtaining and analysing energy data from a wide range of sources within the operational control of the airport, reporting in line with the legislation and organising an external reasonable assurance audit to verify the data. Responsibilities also covered ensuring management actions within the EPBC-listed Grey-Box Woodland were undertaken in-line with EPBC requirements.

Part of the Environment Team, being involved in a number of tasks including: management of the EMS aligned to a ISO 14001 framework, with key deliverables including the development of key risk policies, procedures and processes that helped drive efficiency in work process, whilst minimising operational, business and environmental risks. Management of non-conformances, including implementing corrective actions and strategic improvement. Also involved in developing my environmental auditing skills, through site audits of construction activites (landside & airside), overseeing APAC's NGERS and NPI reporting obligations, assisting in incorporating sustainability at the airport and reviewing environmental reports, results and documents.

I worked in the Environmental Department at Melbourne Airport for my vacation work. I had a number of roles and responsibilities, these included: construction & operation site inspections, creating a GIS layer, reviewing and updating environmental management systems, assisting to develop a sustainability report and updating melbourne airport websites.
