Training Academy-Applied Technology Region 1 Training Coordinator

Current

Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area

The Applied Technology Unit, a critical cornerstone of Louisiana's law enforcement apparatus, takes the reins of the state's evidential breath testing program. The tasks under our purview are broad and varied, encapsulating the installation, maintenance, and recertification of all Intoxilyzer 9000 instruments. But our mandate doesn't stop there; we also shoulder the responsibility of certifying and recertifying the Intoxilyzer 9000 operators.Besides our duties associated with the Intoxilyzer 9000, we are the guiding force for the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program in Louisiana. Our remit expands beyond our immediate team, providing essential training related to impaired driving to a wider audience of law enforcement officers, as well as prosecutors and judges across the state. The Intoxilyzer 9000 stands as the lone sentinel in the realm of breath-testing instruments approved for evidential use in Louisiana. Recognizing the critical role it plays, we ensure that its users - law enforcement personnel across the state - are well-trained in the correct administration of breath tests on impaired drivers. This is a comprehensive process; initial certification takes 16 hours, and recertification is required every two years. Our commitment to curbing impaired driving also extends to offering the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program (DEC). This consists of three substantial training courses related to the issue: the DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing course, the Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course, and the Drug Recognition Expert course. These synergistic courses form the backbone of our efforts to ensure that Louisiana's roads remain safe.
