I joined WSP Development & Transportation in 2003 to help establish and grow a team in Cambridge focused on providing advice in development planning. Over 4 years we became an established business unit of 10 staff and I took on the role of unit manager in parallel to managing client accounts and projects. I was fortunate to have worked on both large and small projects with a range of associated professionals in WSP Group including structural engineers, environmental consultants and remediation specialists. It was a rewarding time and included some challenging internal projects looking at group wide initiatives that allowed me to travel to some of the Scandinavian offices.

Buchanan Consulting Engineers was an associated company of Colin Buchanan and Partners founded in 1989. The company focused on all areas of highways, transport and infrastructure planning support to the private sector development industry. I joined in 1997 following graduate training in Suffolk County Council. It was at Buchanan that I first experienced work for the private sector development industry and met colleagues that would become business partners at Cannon Consulting Engineers.

I was a graduate engineer retained following a years industrial placement with the Council and sponsorship through my final year's study. The training for graduates followed ICE guidelines and provided experience in structural engineering, focused on highway structures, highways and transportation studies and site supervision. This broad based training allowed for engagement at all levels of the Council, including presentations to elected members and public consultation.
