The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) represents Tribal governments—both those that operate their own health care delivery systems through contracting and compacting, and those receiving health care directly from the Indian Health Service (IHS). Located in Washington DC on Capitol Hill, the NIHB, a non-profit organization, provides a variety of services to tribes, Area Health Boards, Tribal organizations, federal agencies, and private foundations, including: •Advocacy•Policy Formation and Analysis•Legislative and Regulatory Tracking•Direct and Timely Communication with Tribes•Research on Indian Health Issues•Program Development and Assessment•Training and Technical Assistance Programs•Project Management

I work with tribal entities, and state and local health departments to strengthen their HIV prevention programming and internal infrastructure to carry out effective HIV prevention work. I began working with NNAAPC as Capacity Building Assistance Specialist, then was promoted to Program Director and served as interim Executive Director for two years before being named regular Executive Director (and having the title changed to President/CEO).

I worked for the Denver STD/HIV Prevention Training Center where I trained prevention staff and health department staff within a 16 state region on effective behavioral interventions and the skills needed to implement those interventions. I also worked in the STD clinic as a part-time clinician.

I was the field coordinator for a multi site national research study examining partner violence among men living in rural and ethnic communities. I also worked on studies looking at drug and alcohol abuse, specifically methamphetamine abuse, suicide prevention, and tobacco cessation. I was responsible for coordinating and delivering national trainings on the Community Readiness Model, disseminating materials and the model, and coordinating all requests for technical assistance on the model.
