I have been a practicing archaeologist in the Cincinnati area since 1974. I worked as a survey archaeologist for Miami Purchase Association (now Cincinnati Preservation Association) recording sites in a six county area of Southwest Ohio from 1977 through 1986. After a four year period of private consulting in archaeology, I joined the Cincinnati Museum Center in 1990 as a collections manager. In 2003, I was named the George Rieveschl Curator of Archaeology at the Museum. Since 1974, I have participated in, or acted as field supervisor, on more than 26 major archaeological excavations in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia. These include research, contract, and salvage investigations at both prehistoric and historic sites. My interests lie in Hopewell archaeology, prehistoric lithics, urban archaeology, and the history of Ohio archaeology.In the past 30 years I have authored or co-authored 16 articles or book chapters, numerous articles for non-refereed publications, edited a book on the Late Prehistory of Ohio, co-edited a book on prehistoric wooden architecture in Ohio and surrounding regions, and have presented more than 30 papers at regional and national professional conferences on prehistoric and historical archaeology topics.Since 1977, I have authored over 100 public archaeology reports, and have co-authored an additional 13 reports. As the sole proprietor of R. G. Archaeological Services, I authored more than 70 contract reports. Contract projects have been conducted in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.
