Established in August 2009, the Yunus Center at AIT is the first collaboration of its kind by Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus and an educational institution – the Asian Institute of Technology. We aim to develop an action-learning platform that fosters the development, implementation, and valuation of sustainable social business models driven by research, technology, and partnerships that effectively solve social problems, with a particular focus on gender equality.

The Outward Bound Professional Learning Lab is at the center of one of the most ambitious Outward Bound initiatives in decades. Launched with funding from the Stephen D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation, the Lab will convene the most experienced practitioners from the regional Outward Bound Schools with leading national research and curriculum consultants. In partnership with the Lab staff, researchers and our curriculum consultant, the team will identify our core student outcomes and the instructional practices most critical to promoting them.

In conjunction with Omaha Public Schools, Outward Bound implemented innovative curriculum championing mindfulness, character development, and social and emotional learning. After a successful summer, the elementary school program was awarded significant funding and was expanded in scope. In June 2018 alone, our elementary school program served over 3,000 students, nearly as many students that Outward Bound Omaha served in the entirety of 2017.

The 21st Century CLC program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.
