Hi! My name is Patrick Gritton, and I am an undergraduate student at Cornell, class of '26. I am pursuing a degree in Environment and Sustainability, with a particular focus on conservation and ornithology. I currently work at the Cornell lab of Ornithology with Dr. Gemma Clucas, where I do fecal metabarcoding on seabird samples. Additionally, I work under Dr. Miyoko Chu as a part of the Bird Friendly Campus initiative, where we aim to make Cornell a safer place for birds and reduce window collisions.

I am working with Postdoctoral researcher Gemma Clucas on her SCAT seabird diet study. As a part of this role, I work in the Lovette lab doing fecal metabarcoding on Seabird samples. In addition to the fecal metabarcoding, I will also be traveling to white island in Shoals for a field component, where I will be collecting tern fecal samples and collecting data on Common and Roseate tern nests.

Throughout this spring I have worked with Dr. Miyoko Chu at the lab of Ornithology as a part of the Bird Friendly Campus initiative. The goal of this iniative is to reduce bird window collisions across Cornell's campus in order to conserve migrating bird populations. As a part of this role I have communicated the importance of bird safe windows to different stakeholders across campus, as well as drafted a bird and human health safety protocol. I am not currently working in this role as of summer 2023, but plan to resume work with the iniative in the fall.
