Secured final approval of legislation authorizing the government to obtain an equity stake in air carriers in the aftermath of September 11th; combating drunken and distracted driving; preserving open space in the "Highlands" section of the Northeast; and strengthening the regulation of gas pipelines. Drafted and introduced freight rail safety legislation and worked closely with industry and labor leaders to secure support. Legislation enhanced rail car integrity and created basic training requirements in the areas of general safety, emergency preparedness, and terrorism response. Analyzed Bush Administration budget proposals for the Department of Transportation and drafted committee and floor statements regarding same. Secured millions in authorization and appropriations funding for aviation, highway, maritime, and mass transit projects throughout the State of New Jersey.
