As a Research Scientist in Marine Carbonate Chemistry at the Downeast Institute, Rob is leading groundbreaking experiments to study ocean acidification and warming impacts on Gulf of Maine shellfish including the softshell clam, Atlantic surfclam, and American lobster. Outside of the lab, he is also engaged in projects to monitor and mitigate climate change impacts on Maine tidal mudflats. To that end, his work entails developing research partnerships with local shellfish farmers and authorities and bringing the most up-to-date seawater carbonate chemistry analysis techniques to the region. Currently, Rob is the lead PI on a national Sea Grant award aiming to improve resilience of larval blue mussels to ocean acidification stress in a hatchery scenario.
