I am a Human Givens (HG) counsellor/therapist based in Paris, France The term human givens refers to the givens of human nature – our essential physical and emotional needs and the innate resources we have to help us fulfil themThe HG Approach derives from the understanding that when these needs are met in a healthy balance and our innate mental resources are used correctly, a human being will be emotionally and mentally healthy:• we will not get depressed• we cannot have psychosis• we cannot be in the grip of addictionsWhen I first encountered this idea, I was so taken by the elegance and simplicity of it that I decided to delve deeper.
