I have been blessed to be able to attend two separate universities and letter in football as a student athlete at each. I have had multiple opportunities to work with children in a capacity I am familiar with and be able to teach them life lessons that they will subconsciously carry with them. I never saw myself as being in any kind of construction. When I was offered the opportunity to work for Mill It Up I quickly realized it was a blessing in disguise because I was going to be able to gain knowledge and experience on equipment and in a field that is not suited for just anyone. I went from just driving the water truck to teaching myself how to handle skid steers and brooms. Then I took the initiative to get on top if the milling machine and see how it was actually run. It was overwhelming at first with all the buttons and switches and watching your surroundings while working in conjunction with a dump truck in front of you catching the milling, I never thought I'd be able to do it. A situation arose where a young foreman needed a reliable/dependable worker to run his machine so I stepped up and became an operator. It's not the most glamorous job in the world but standing on top of that huge machine knowing you can nearly manipulate it to do just about whatever you want is a pretty cool feeling. From there I started learning how the level pro electronics worked that actually control the workings of the machine. It wasn't long before I was able to put a level pro on top of the machine and operate the top while also making adjustments to the machine as needed through the level pro. After about 4 years of trying to prove myself and earn a chance to advance my position, I had to evaluate my options and look elsewhere for employment, that's when I was blessed with the opportunity to do the contract job on Ascension Island. I eventually came back to Mill It Up as a more mature and driven individual. I hired back in as a water truck driver after having years of milling experience. Within the first month I was back operating the machine as well as ensuring my job was done. There were times when I would run the machine for 10-12 hours, get down, perform general maintenance on it, fill it with fuel, grease every fitting, wash it down and then I'd get to go back to my truck and try to catch my paperwork up for the day and/or take inventory of what I may need to add to the parts and equipment on my truck. I also spent a ton of time running skid steers doing clean up on jobs our crew wasn't milling.
