The J79 engine was developed by General Electric in the 1950's. It continues to dependably power the F-4 Phantom and Kfir aircrafts for several countries. My main goal was to keep these engines supported with OEM parts. With small volume and short production runs (creating only a few willing suppliers) I developed the OEM certified used-parts business for GE Aviation.

General Electric/ Rolls Royce Fighter Engine Team (GE/RR FET) Project Manager achieved strong contractor defense characteristics within both data management and government property business systems for the F136 SDD Engine Program. As Engineering Business Development Leader I used ALPHA-CONTRACTING (USG participates with company) to develop the F136 proposal. Using technical risk management methods the GE/RR FET produced a $2.4B proposal accepted by the USG without negotiation.

A major factor in missing design targets is lacking full comprehension of "development uncertainty". I defined it. Improved the Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (MAIC) process by leveraging the DEFINE portion of the “Order-to-Remittance” DMADV process, and establishing the "D" in DMAIC.

The Technology Development Cycle (TDC) leveraged the New Product Introduction (NPI) Guide and established specific tollgate language for technology Feasibility, Demonstration, Maturation, and Validation. Well-defined tollgate linkages between the TDC and NPI guides assures proper technology maturation prior to product introduction.

Held several positions of increasing responsibility on the F110 Family of engines. Beginning with the F110-400 qualification on the F-14 Tomcat, I solved a puzzling gearbox failure experienced during final carrier qualification testing as a resonance of the aircraft nose gear driving a coincident resonance of the aircraft gearbox system mode ... only occuring when trap-landing on fresh "non-skid" surface applied to the carrier deck. Other supported engines included the F110-129 but not nearly as exciting!
