I manage a portfolio of circa 500 customers ranging from SME’s with turnovers of £2-3m up to large commercial multinationals with turnovers up to £25m. Within this job role I manage and build relationships within my existing commercial portfolio and through this I play a part in contributing to the overall commercial deposits plan for the bank, one of significant growth. This is done through developing existing and building new customer relationships through excellent and consistent customer service. By knowing my customers well through developing said relationships, I can also add value for the customer and the bank by identifying opportunities. This is done through analysing their activities and identifying needs. Examples of this could be by offering FX products or services such as merchant services, where the bank obtains a referral and the customer could potentially save money as well as processes being more streamlined for them. I also work closely with the Business Development Managers when exploring new opportunities for the bank. Within this role it is also important that I have an in depth understanding of KYC, KYB and AML requirements. There is an element of risk with managing a portfolio of customers in many different industries and with many different needs and requirements.

As an Inward Investment and Banking Specialist my main role is on-boarding some of the highest risk customers in the bank. The team opens accounts for businesses where 51% of the shareholding is based overseas, or where the business is deemed complex, through things such as having structures with multiple layers or being in industries seen as higher risk, as per Metro Bank account opening policy. I also act as a point of contact for customer from initial contact right up until their account is opened. I also maintain relationships with customers’ post account opening, supporting the relationship managers with day to day queries. I am also involved with completing annual reviews on the Inward Investment portfolio. This consists of reviewing transactions across a certain period and evidencing any changes in the business, including structural and nature of business. I also completed my ICA Advanced Certificate in Anti Money Laundering whilst in this role.
