One of the most rewarding periods of my career was the time I spent at Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg. My team defended auto manufacturers and dealers against claims of breach of warranty and fraud. The team started with one partner, me, two paralegals, and support staff. As the practice grew, I was trusted to train new associates and paralegals.I was the primary attorney on more than 200 open matters, with 15-20 active cases at any given time. From discovery to arbitration or trial, I was responsible for every aspect of these cases. I spent 3-4 days per week in court arguing motions, conducting arbitration hearings and bench trials, and negotiating settlements. Outside of my court appearances, I prepared witnesses, took and defended depositions of lay witnesses and experts, and researched and drafted motions, memoranda, and appellate briefs.I highlight this experience because it showcases what I love about practicing law: collaboration, excellence, and intellectual challenge. In law school I discovered a love for intellectual property. After I left Neal Gerber, I obtained an LL.M in Intellectual Property Law. I wanted to sit for the Patent Bar Exam but was not eligible to take the exam due to my lack of a technical background. Not one to be deterred, I began taking computer and electrical engineering courses. By 2009, I had finished the technical course work and passed the Patent Bar, and I am now a Registered Patent Attorney. In my career, I have represented a wide array of clients from individuals and small family-owned businesses to some of the largest companies in the world. I have been fortunate to work with incredibly bright attorneys and sophisticated clients. My next step is to find a firm where I can practice law and build my book of business. I look forward to rekindling relationships with past clients as well as developing new clients, mainly in the areas of litigation, estate planning, business planning, and intellectual property.
