About Robert Mcsweeney
I look after the climate science coverage at Carbon Brief, a multiple award-winning website focused on climate and energy journalism. My role involves writing, commissioning and editing everything from in-depth explainers and guest articles to rapid factchecks and newsletters.I previously worked as an environmental scientist at the consultancy firm Atkins, where I focused on climate change impacts and adaptation (particularly regarding water resources). I hold an MEng in mechanical engineering from the University of Warwick and an MSc in climate change from the University of East Anglia. I am a Chartered Scientist (C.Sci), Chartered Water and Environment Manager (C.WEM) and member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Managers (MCIWEM). Working in the Climate Futures team, my role covered all areas of climate science with a focus on climate change impacts and adaptation and water resources. I managed projects in the areas of: climate change impact assessment, interpretation of climate scenarios, providing adaptation advice, thought leadership and producing guidance documents for appropriate use of climate projections. My experience covered both UK and international projects.

I took a sabbatical from Atkins to take up a Research Associate role in a team to produce a Green Growth and Climate Resilience Strategy for Rwanda. The primary focus of my role was in two areas: to undertake an assessment of observed and projected climate changes in Rwanda, and to develop a proposal for the establishment of a Climate Centre in Rwanda. The project was led by Sir Professor David King.
