Better late than never. After 25+ years in the workforce in the fields of telecommunications, equipment finance and insurance fraud, I decided to take a Google Coursera IT Support Professional course and realized I wanted to invest more time in this. I followed that course up with Google IT Automation with Python. I was hooked.I have always enjoyed learning new things and how to make those things more efficient. This included learning how to design all kinds of telecommunications circuits (, ISDN, T1, DS3, Smartring), learning how to sell and finance heavy equipment, including every type of crane, and learning about insurance fraud, how to spot it, and investigate it. In parallel to my day jobs, about 20 years ago, I wanted to get more involved in the community and give back. I decided to join my local volunteer fire house and fulfill a childhood dream to be a firefighter. I had no idea I would make lifelong friends, learn all aspects of firefighting including driving all of the trucks, and hold leadership positions operationally (Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief) and serving on the Board of Directors. I designed and implemented a new member training program that helped acclimate them to the firehouse, meet other new members in a relaxed setting, and get them prepared to help their crew on scenes while preparing them for fire school. This provided key leadership experience in developing and communicating complex topics that has also served me in professional roles.This incredible journey has shaped me into a balanced, competent, and thoughtful leader, mentor and team member and I'm excited to jump into a new position.
