Leading a team of highly talented multidisciplinary researchers, I am searching for our next-generation solutions for antibiotic-resistant bacteria. We have raised significant federal funding to implement a novel bioinformatic and modeling approach to antibiotic discovery in the lab. Our research has been published in top-tier journals, highlighted in multiple media outlets, and has produced award-winning graduate students. To date, our group has raised over 2.5 million in federal funding. I inspire the next generation of physicians in the lecture hall by imparting complex scientific and medical information in easy-to-digest and interactive lectures. My approach to scientific communication engages learners of diverse backgrounds while instilling rigor, confidence and problem solving in my students. As the founding chair of the Faculty Research Advisory Board, I lead a faculty and administrator team to develop and implement data-driven solutions to increase research capacity and funding university-wide. My work has allowed me to forge strong relationships with colleagues that crisscross university centers, including HR, procurement, library services, research and development, and risk management. To date, we have streamlined the hiring process, implemented new purchasing and publishing paradigms, and helped increase sponsored funding by over 40 million in three years. Prior to this role, I served as vice chair of the Research Advisory Board, overseeing a significant expansion of research at the university. One of our key achievements was the establishment and successful implementation of the Center for Collaborative Research, a project that has since become a cornerstone of our research initiatives. In just over 5 years, our team helped to oversee changes that led to a doubling of sponsored research university-wide, amounting to increased funding of nearly 60 million.

Working with a team of business analysts, I spearheaded research and analysis of multi-million dollar investment opportunities in memory care, healthcare, multi-family residences, and commercial real estate. Paramount to my success is my ability to impart complex scientific information to non-scientist business colleagues while understanding and implementing the principles of strategic investment and business analytics. During my time as a freelance consultant, the company has seen rapid growth, leading to a portfolio of assets valued in the billions.

Using a combination of highly quantitative measurements and mathematical modelling, we are using a systems biology approach to examine the interaction between bacteria and antibiotics. Furthermore, we are designing simple genetic circuits to answer biologically significant questions. Finally, I help to prepare and edit grants submitted to agencies such as NIH and NSF.

I organized a nationally recognized volunteer program that encompasses over 225 local volunteers, 85 local schools, and 150 local educators. I increased volunteer recruitment through an aggressive advertising campaign. Furthermore, I increased community awareness of both Carleton University and LTS by establishing and improving local media relationshipsTo grow our volunteer and student involvement at our site, I organized a city wide science competition held at Carleton University for 70 intermediate students. Finally, to ensure long term success of our program, I established a secure financial plan to ensure local program growth including obtaining additional financial support within the university

Using fungal genetics and molecular techniques, including RT-PCR, immunoblotting, site directed mutagenesis and vital staining, I examined the expression of the un-24 nonself recognition locus in several closely related fungal species. During my thesis, I developed a novel mechanism of fungal incompatibility, which may have implications in enzyme and nonself recognition evolution.

During my PhD thesis, I was a teacher's assistant for a variety of laboratory courses including genetics, molecular genetics and biochemistry. I helped students perform experimentation, interpret and present data as well as write reports. I was highly regarded by students as I was able to explain difficult scientific concepts in a 'down to earth' way.
