Along with the duties I hold with Computer Support Services Management, I am a Project Manager for major initiatives within our whole department, affecting the entire Faculty of Medicine.

Health Sciences Centre

Overall responsibility for the management of the Computer Support Services Division of the Health Sciences Information and Media Services (HSIMS) department. The Computer Support Services division is comprised of three teams, each with a supervisor, A) System Administration - three staff managing the server farm for the Faculty of Medicine, including the Clinical Learning and Development Centre; B) Application/Database Development and Business Analysis – three staff, performing system/business analysis and programming; and C) Computer Support – six staff, which manage all incoming computer hardware, leased and non-leased, computer setup, delivery and support. My Team maintains an 88 seat computer classroom, used by the Faculty of Medicine, School of Nursing and School of Pharmacy. I was a member of the Faculty’s new building expansion project team responsible for IT infrastructure

Development of short and long range strategies for the provision of computing needs of the Faculty of Medicine. Approval of computer (hardware and software) purchases, Identification of information technology requirements. Performance of feasibility studies, design, development, testing and implementation of programs and writing systems documentation. Implementation of computer packages and programs obtained from external sources and the preparation and presentation of seminars. Planning and implementation of networks throughout the Faculty of Medicine. Considerable contact with the faculty and staff in providing assistance and recommendation for the application of computer facilities to research, teaching and/or administrative areas. Supervision and direction of work loads for two programmer consultants. Management of a Digital MicroVAX II running VMS, maintaining and upgrading the system software and hardware.

Also the design, development, and documentation of computer programs for use in research, teaching, and/or administrative systems; implementation of computer software packages and programs obtained from external sources for use by faculty, staff, and students; providing assistance in the use of such programs; preparing and conducting short courses and seminars on the topics of interest to computer users; and performing a variety of related work as required.

Share tutorial and consulting responsibilities for computer science courses as well as service courses. Assist in maintenance of up-to-date UNIX/VMS/(RSTS/E) documentation and on-line manuals. Prepare handouts on use of computer systems for distribution to users. Assist in development of computer aided data base for Computer Science courses and UNIX utilities. Share the responsibility for supervision of terminal rooms so that facilities will be available to students outside regular office hours. Share in the maintenance and running of the Microprocessor, Graphics, and Logic Design Laboratories. Share in the software maintenance and backing-up duties for the departmental VAX computers.
