I am a PhD candidate at the University of Portsmouth. My research is a combination of linguistics and Middle Eastern studies. I use techniques from linguistics (corpus linguistics and discourse analysis) to investigate the ways in which political violence is reported in the media in Western Europe and North Africa. In addition to this, I have a background in working on capacity building projects in the field of English language education and higher education: I have worked with the British Council and local educational institutions in the Middle East (Palestine & Egypt), South East Asia (Myanmar & Thailand) and West Africa (Senegal). This work has encompassed teacher training, mentoring and coaching, as well as managing and delivering small to medium-scale projects. I also have experience teaching English as a foreign language including teaching English for Academic Purposes at several British universities. I have prepared students from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds for academically demanding postgraduate courses in UK higher education.I am highly flexible and culturally sensitive with decent foreign language skills. I am confident operating in Arabic, French and Spanish.
