Profile bio

About Robert Schmidt

I'm a life-long "word nerd" in search of a full-time Senior Copy Editor, Content Editor, or Proofreader position helping businesses and individuals bring their ideas to the larger market. I'm a team leader with an eye for style and substance, as well as grammar and punctuation. I work equally well in AP and Chicago styles (and have been known to juggle work across 30+ style guides over the course of a week). I play well with others and have been hiring, coaching, and developing other editors, proofreaders, and writers along the way. At the same time, I have an eye (and ear) for a well-turned phrase or a missed comma. I've been editing, proofreading, copywriting, and helping others with language professionally across many fields - from editing 4-word ads to writing blog posts and from proofreading novella-length SOWs to editing (and blurbing) actual novels, I do it all. I've worked in collegiate marketing, technical writing, and the Arts, as well as in retail management and non-profit marketing - and have done a certain amount of baking to keep my sanity. I'm organized and with an eye for details; I have been commended for both my speed and accuracy in editing, writing, and proofreading. I've worked solo, wrangled a staff of 13 freelancers, and interviewed, hired, and trained in new staff in various positions (most recently doing so fully virtually). My goal is to make a living in the world of words.I'm here for you when words matter. (Or you just need a cookie.)Areas of expertise: Strong collaborator, developmental editor, copyeditor, proofreader, content writer, mentor, and writing coach.

Listed skills include Editing, Proofreading, Copy Editing, Web Content, and 24 others.
