About Robert Shurniak
Hi! I am a Senior Engineer for Okane Consultants based in Nanaimo, Canada. I am a Canadian professional engineer registered in British Columbia, Canada.I am an expert in the use and development of numerical models as they relate to mine closure planning; specifically, simulating soil-plant-atmosphere and saturated / unsaturated water movement over, around and through any vegetation or materials used in mine operations and closure. I have a working knowledge of many computer programs including the VADOSE/W bundle of GeoStudio (i.e. SEEP/W, TEMP/W and CTRAN/W), AIR/W, GOLDSIM, HYDRUS, SoilVision, CliGEN, and SoilCover. I have supervised, managed and advised on numerous numerical modelling projects. I have developed over 50 long-term climate databases, accounting for historical climate and predicted future climate change, for a range of sites (arctic to arid) around the world. I also have experience designing, installing and maintaining field monitoring systems and evaluating the results from such installations. I am currently the Numerical Modelling Group Leader for Okane’s operations; ensuring all modelling projects are completed to Okane’s high standards.
