  I am a Founding Principal of Schwartz/Silver Architects, lead the firm’s quality control efforts, and provide technical support on all projects. That means I generally review construction documents, write technical specifications and provide guidance in difficult construction challenges. It also makes me Schwartz/Silver’s firm-wide technical mentor. In one way or another, I’ve been doing that sort of thing since I was a kid. At Stuyvesant High School I built telescopes and ended up being enlisted one summer as a paid assistant teaching other kids how to “figure” a hand ground and polished mirror. I answer technical questions with just a little more information than what’s requested. My first degree is in physics, and I had applied to graduate schools in both architecture and astronomy before realizing that since what I loved most was “building things” there was more gratification in architecture – the profession of both my father and older brother. It’s apparently in the blood.I have served as a member of the Simmons University GSLIS Futures Panel, reporting to the provost and president about how the Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences might respond to contemporary changes in information technology. I have been a Trustee of the New England Baptist Hospital and Chair of its Facilities Committee; a member of the Board of Directors of the Boston Society of Architects; and Chair of the Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commission. I am a Board Member of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society & Institute, and a Fellow of the AIA.I still read the journal Science every week.
