Robert E. Simmons graduated from Mississippi State University in 1979 with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. He was President of Simmons Oil Co, Inc., a wholesale and retail petroleum distributor, from 1979 until 1996 when he sold the company. From 1996 to August 2002, Mr. Simmons managed his personal financial portfolio, real estate investments, and oil and gas investments. He joined Legg Mason in 2002. Legg Mason brokerage was acquired by Smith Barney in 2006, which was later acquired by Morgan Stanley then joined Wells Fargo Advisors in 2010. In September 2019, Mr. Simmons accepted his current position with Benjamin F. Edwards and Company.Mr. Simmons has served or is a member of the following organizations: Currently on the Advisory Council of The Encouraging Word, a nationwide broadcast ministry. Member of ADP: formerly on the Advisory Board of Directors of Trustmark National Bank in Columbia, MS: former member of Hattiesburg Rotary Club: past Board of Directors of Hattiesburg Racquet Club: past President of Columbia Rotary Club and Board of Directors: past President of Columbia Country Club: past Board of Directors of Columbia Chamber of Commerce: past Board Member of Mississippi Petroleum Marketers Association, serving on the Finance Committee.Mr. Simmons served as a Deacon in First Baptist Church of Columbia for nine years, four of them as a Deacon Officer. He is currently a member of Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg.Mr. Simmons enjoys tennis, biking, golf, reading and traveling.
